International SAP S/4HANA Go-Live at Mannesmann Precision Tubes – Complex Transformation Successfully Delivered During Ongoing Business Operations
Together with consenso, Mannesmann Precision Tubes (MPT) transformed its SAP landscape to SAP S/4HANA and introduced SAP Transportation Management. A particular highlight was the simultaneous go-live across all German and French sites, involving more than 600 cut-over activities.
The introduction of SAP S/4HANA marked another important milestone in Salzgitter AG’s Group-wide transformation programme.
Initial Situation
As part of Salzgitter AG’s Group-wide SAP S/4HANA transformation programme, the Steel Processing business unit set out to consolidate all steel tube manufacturing companies into a single SAP S/4HANA system. MPT is one of the companies within this business unit. Its existing SAP landscape was to be modernised through a selective transformation, while proven processes and relevant data were transferred in a targeted manner to the new system environment.
Challenge
The transformation covered all SAP S/4HANA application areas across the end-to-end business processes. At the same time, SAP Transportation Management (SAP TM) was introduced as a new solution for transport planning and execution.
The go-live was particularly demanding: it took place simultaneously across all MPT sites in Germany and France. This required close cross-border collaboration between several project teams, business departments, and external partners. The cut-over was based on a window of around 100 hours and a detailed plan comprising more than 600 individual activities.
Implementation
As Salzgitter AG’s strategic SAP implementation partner, consenso supported the project throughout its entire duration of almost two years – from design and implementation through to the successful go-live. Together with the business departments and key users at Mannesmann Precision Tubes, the IT and project teams at Salzgitter Digital Solutions (SZDS), and JDC-Consulting as the data migration partner, processes were harmonised, SAP TM was implemented, and the complex cut-over was prepared and managed.
The Result
The go-live was completed successfully and on schedule across all German and French sites. The introduction of SAP S/4HANA marked another important milestone in Salzgitter AG’s Group-wide transformation programme. At the same time, it created a future-ready SAP system landscape that supports MPT in continuing to develop its business processes efficiently and sustainably across international operations.
